eclipse

Like millions of people, I eagerly awaited the big day, the big moment of the big eclipse - the one to eclipse all others.

Awaking early I raced through my morning routines, sprinting to Starbucks in anticipation of my wake-up usual -The Big No latte - venti, no foam, no fat, no room. With steaming hot cognition in hand I set out to walk in the early morning sun.

Looking everywhere wanting to imprint every flower, every tree, every bush, every blade of grass, everything, before the pageantry began. This would be the eclipse to remember, The Great American Eclipse. I wanted to watch, to feel, to hear the music of Earth as the moon slowly danced with the sun towards a lover's embrace.

The moment began. The moon coquettish in her approach to the sun. The sun, big, bright, heat radiating from his core dazzled the crisp blue sky and the ever demure moon. But she persisted, the moon, in her beguiling approach. Clouds discreetly departing clearing room for the courtier. Finally the sun, enthralled by the moon, gave up his brilliance ... they began their deliberate dance and the world changed.

Everything was washed by an amber hue like a painter pouring water pastels over the Earth. The leafy shadows on the sidewalk became blurred crescents celebrating the moon's charm in seducing the sun. The Earth stood still., breathless amid the dance. Not a sound, not a whisper, The world stopped and all watched the moon tease the sun.

The air cooled as if lightly nipped by the moon's frosty lips. The sun, deeply entranced by the bewitching moon as she nudged closer still ... she had him in her power. The amber wash became darker slowly deepening as the lovers drew closer. The moon radiating her hypnotizing beauty as the sun eagerly inhaled her shimmering aura.

Then, the final moment of the embrace. The moon caressed the sun into surrender. The Earth closed her eyes in reverence letting the darkness return privacy. The sun exploding in rapture enveloping the moon in streams of crimson and amber light that frolicked on the Earth as fairies in the forest.

Tears filled my eyes running down my cheeks like a child secure and loved in her mother's arms. The silent music filled my ears as the lover's locked in their ecstasy. The Universe sighed in homage to the union.

Then, all too soon, the dance ended. The sun and moon gently parted lingering in those final moments unable to let go. The moon returning to her vigil mothering the morning skies while the sun shown even brighter filling the day with the radiance of the dance. The Earth rejoiced and came alive.

In those sweet moments everything was right with the world.
